Benefits and Risks

The so-called experts claim that there are health risks associated with the vaccine while at the same time claiming that those vaccinated, in their view, will benefit by being vaccinated. So, they say “just get vaccinated the benefits outweigh the risk”. They claim over half of the population is vaccinated and the unvaccinated have only risk and no benefit.

There is however another area where the benefits do outweigh the risks. I would submit that the Benefits of living in a land where the people have a right to keep and bear arms far outweigh the Risks of living in a land where the people have a right to keep and bear arms.

I see no Benefit to living in a land where the population is disarmed, I see only Risk.

Mind you these people are now in quarantine at the Penny’s Bay quarantine camp. They are not there by choice; they are there by force.

I am not thinking that the citizens of Hong Kong have the right to keep and bear arms. But I am thinking that the ones who forced them into the quarantine camp were armed. Just saying.

I look with a suspicious eye at any government that seeks to disarm the population.

When it comes to the cult of gun control it was never about gun control, however it was and is about controlling who has guns. The government will always have arms, the best arms that money can buy. Armed bodyguards will always surround the elite.

Every American citizen reaps a benefit from those that choose to exercise their Second Amendment Right, the Right to Keep and Bear arms. Every American citizen also shares the risk of a population that chooses to exercise the right to keep and bear arms. Read this again before proceeding.

Go back in history and look at some of the pictures, especially WW2 in occupied Europe. The people boarding the boxcars, were they doing that willingly or were they being forced? The key point is that they were disarmed, while the ones that were herding them were well armed. We can only speculate what would have happened or not happened if say ten percent of the population had retained their arms.

We can, however, look at current events around the world that were brought about by government actions or overreactions over covid. Government true to form has blamed failures on others rather than accept responsibility for decisions it has made and the actions it took.

Hong Kong is not the only place around the world that has established covid quarantine camps. There was even a rumor of one or two here in America. So far nothing more than rumors.

Many governments around the world have for years trampled upon their subjects, with covid they have excelled at the trampling. They have no idea what checks, and balances are. The only thing in Check is the subjects, the government keeps them in “check” with the “balance” of power resting in the hands of government.

The time has come to ask yourself a hard question. Would this government, our government, trample the citizens into subjects? While I wait for your answer I will move on.

If your answer was No, then you must believe that only good people have occupied and currently occupy our government. Patrick Henry had something to say on this matter in 1788.

If your answer was Yes, then I have another question for you. What has prevented the government from trampling citizens into subjects? I will move on while waiting for your answer.

If your answer was the Constitution, you really need to read what was written by Patrick Henry, John DeWitt, Benjamin Franklin, and other wise men from the past.

If your answer was an armed Citizenry, you just proved my point that every citizen Benefits from the Risks of living in a land where the Citizens have the Right to Keep and Bear arms.

One last question. What is it that guarantees all the other Rights you enjoy?

It is more than just “Bad Optics”

Bad Optics, a phrase we were exposed to not all that long ago. A phrase employed or deployed by government, more precisely those in government, to give them “cover” when they do something stupid. Like a president going golfing when an American has just been beheaded. It is not bad optics their actions show just how little they care.

Let us look at just some of the “Bad Optics” on display courtesy of some if not many in our government.

We have the anti-gun left, which by the way includes some if not many in the republican party, declaring that we must get “weapons of war” off of our streets. They say this while at the same time placing actual weapons of war on our streets. The Military, National Guard stationed outside the perimeter surrounding the Capitol complex are not armed with typewriters, they are indeed armed with weapons of war.

Not only are the anti-gun left placing actual weapons of war on our streets, there is talk of those actual weapons of war remaining well into the future. There has been talk of a Quick Reaction Force comprised of National Guard members on a rotating basis being permanently stationed in DC to augment the Capitol Police.

More “bad optics”. The open borders left, which again includes some republicans, bitch and moan over the wall that was being constructed on the southern border have no problem with a fence erected around the Capitol complex. For people of an ideology of fences and walls do not work and are in fact inhumane seem to be loving the fence around them. They seem to be okay with leaving the border wide open to whoever wants to come in while they fence in their area to keep whoever out. Seems as though they have a greater concern for their safety and security than the safety and security of the nation and indeed the safety of those living along the southern border.

Another. What happened to the left and their “defund the police”? From what I read there are going to be hundreds of new hires by the Capitol Police to provide a greater level of security and safety for those in government. I have a hunch that the defund the police movement only applies to the ordinary citizens not those who rule over us.

And now this example. It appears, to me, that the chief role of the military is shifting. The military is shifting away from defending the nation towards defending the government and indeed the seat of government. We may indeed come to understand why the Founders were so against having a permanent standing army.

Now to tie all of this together.

We now have the democrats controlling the Legislative branch and the Executive branch and just as expected they are on their march to enact gun control legislation. Two bills have already cleared the House with republican support. The Senate is once again putting forth an “assault weapons” ban while we wait to see how many republicans join their ranks. They do this while surrounded by actual weapons of war and a pretty effective physical barrier.

As of this writing the democrat controlled Senate will come up short on enough votes to pass any of these or any other gun control bills, even with some arm twisting. However nothing can or should be ruled out. The gun control groups poured a lot of money into this past election and they are going to demand a return on their investment. The filibuster rule may just go away and bills in the Senate could pass on a simple majority vote.

Some will say that whatever the democrats do the republicans will undo if we, the voters, give them back the Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Any republican that makes that claim is a bald faced liar. They promised to repeal the ACA, they did not do that.

No, what will happen is that the politicians will sit behind their physical barrier surrounded by men and women of war armed with real weapons of war while they continue to forge the chains they intend to rivet upon us.

That was a good illustration

By now most people have seen the video of the couple in St. Louis. The MSM has absolutely brutalized this couple. The democrat controlled city government is going to investigate them. One would expect this kind of behavior from the MSM and the democrat controlled city government. What I have found, and did not expect, is that some of the “gun culture” channels on YouTube have joined the “pile on” of this couple. Granted I have not seen every YouTube video about this but at least one as much as said this couple are morons and should not own firearms. I think this individual misses the point, entirely.

This couple found themselves in a situation they had never thought would happen. They found themselves confronted by, as reported, 500 “protesters” on their street and on their property. I think you lost your standing as protesters when you began destroying private property and again when you became trespassers. Things obviously went sideways real fast and the couple retrieved their firearms.

The firearms community has grown since this Wuhan corona virus pandemic and shutdown occurred. There are now many more firearms owners. It is also good possibility that there will be more citizens making that first purchase because of the event in St. Louis. Let’s face it, we live is some “interesting” times. A time in which things can get real bad real fast. Things can get bad faster than law-enforcement can show up, perhaps even before you can call for help.

What about the possibility of no help being available? The protests of late quickly devolve into riots. Law-enforcement might just have their hands full dealing with riots and they just cant get to you, no matter how much they want too. Then add in the “priorities” of some State and Local elected officials, they may just place a higher priority on mask wearing and social distancing enforcement than on calls for service. Then you have the efforts of late going on to defund and/or abolish the police. Not to mention angry mobs refusing to allow law-enforcement access to a given area. Then there was this, a lady called 911 for service and she was told to contact City Hall with her complaint as what she was experiencing was the by-product of a sanctioned event.

Many are awakening to the fact that they are their first and best defense. So for those YouTubers out there that have joined the “pile on”, I have this to say to you; Instead of going on about, what you point out, as their “apparent” lack of training with firearms you should be commending them for at least showing up. One other thing before moving on, I would rather have these two beside me in times of trouble than you, they had guts.

Some, most, people are not willing to idly sit and have their lives be threatened or have their property destroyed. People will reach a point where they have had enough and will stand up. If nothing else the event in St. Louis should drive this point home.

They ran head first into a brick wall.

By now everyone has heard, seen or read about the “run” on gun stores. From the videos I have seen the stores are pretty much sold out. From what I gather the vast majority of these sales of firearms, accessories and ammunition were to first time buyers.

So I was wondering what was fueling the sudden “need” to have a firearm. Could it be that you now, at long last, know that you are your own best defense?

What were they buying? From what I have seen just about anything and everything. I imagine that the shoppers that got in on this “run” early got pretty much what they wanted. From the looks of it the ones shopping later were buying what was available(leftovers)and then only if there was ammunition available. This might cause you a problem down the line, but something is better than nothing.

Many a first time firearm owner/buyer has come to the stark realization that acquiring a firearm is not as easy as they have been told. From what I hear some of you were taken aback at how difficult and time consuming the whole process can be.

You were told all you had to do was give the clerk some cash and walk out with a firearm. Didn’t work out that way did it? Had to “jump through some hoops” did you? Let’s look a some of the “hoops” you had to jump through after making your selection.

First you had to fill out a form 4473 in which you had to give up a lot of personal information and submit to a background check. If your State has a law requiring a background check for ammunition then you had to submit to that also.

Second the FFL had to make a phone call and wait for approval before the firearm could actually be transferred to you. The system could be overwhelmed and shutdown, operating hours could be reduced, personnel shortages many things could cause that approval to be delayed, no approval no firearm.

Third if your State has a mandatory waiting period you did not walk out with your firearm. You paid for it but you left empty handed. Depending on how long your State requires then you will wait that many days before taking possession.

Fourth if your State requires that you first get a license to purchase a firearm and you did not have that then you just plain did not get to buy a firearm. From what I hear the office that issues that license is closed, thus you are just out of luck.

Fifth if your State is in the “one gun a month club” and you just bought a firearm because it was all that was available then you are going to have to wait a month to buy another firearm. For instance you had every intention of buying a pistol for yourself and found them all gone and all that was left was a single shot 410 shotgun and you bought it because it was the only firearm available with ammunition you will have to wait 30 days for your next purchase in hopes of getting what you really wanted. You may find that by the time your “time-out”has expired there are no pistols left. But at least you have that 410 and as I said something is better than nothing. By the way, if your “time-out” has expired and you finally get to purchase what you really wanted you will have to go through the whole process again, the form, the phone call and the approval, the waiting period it is not a one time ordeal.

Sixth do not forget about the safe storage laws that your State may have.

Seventh if you tried to order a firearm on line and have it delivered to your house you found that it does not work that way either. You are going to need a licensed dealer to complete the transfer, and yes you still have to complete the form and the phone call still must be made and you must wait for approval and do not forget the mandatory waiting period.

All that above are just some of the “hoops” that must be jumped through. Some apply to everyone no matter what State they live in while others are specific to some States.

So I guess you now know that it is not harder to buy a book than a firearm. Did you ever have to fill out a government form to buy a book? Did you ever have to undergo a background check to buy a book? Was there a mandatory waiting period to take possession of your book? Were you ever limited to the number of books you could buy in a month?

I suppose right now the natural inclination would be for me to sit back and laugh at you in your current predicament, but I shall not do that.

If you are a first time firearm buyer/owner I would personally like to welcome you to the community. Congratulations on your purchase. If you are now just old enough to make your first purchase then I want to take this opportunity to wish you a belated Happy Birthday. More on this in a later post.

If you live in a State with a “red flag” law you now are subject.

What you had and have to endure is the product of and result of many years of gun control steps and measures. There are many more in the works. Things like a national registry and mandatory liability insurance on your firearms just to name two.

The gun control zealots, politicians and/or citizens, have been lying for years, lying to all of us, some bought into their lies and others did not.

They lied when they claimed that “gun free zones” were safer. Well until your recent purchase your home was a gun free zone. What was it that caused you to feel not so safe? By the way most of those claiming that gun free zones are safer are surrounded by armed security details whether paid for by the taxpayers or privately funded.

If you are well above the minimum age to buy a firearm and just got around to purchasing a firearm then you have first hand experience at how difficult and time consuming the whole process is. Your eyes are now open and hopefully you now realize that you have been lied too for years. If they have lied so much and for so long about how easy it is to buy firearms, then you need to ask yourselves, What else have they lied about? Well I ask you, Are their lips moving?

I would like to point out that all of these so-called “common sense” gun control measures have had no effect on the criminals. What they have had an effect on is you and your ability to exercise your right, the Right to Keep and Bear arms. Keep in mind there is an election coming.

Not a dimes woth of difference

It has long been said that when it comes to republicans and democrats at the national level there is not a dimes worth of difference between the two. It would appear now that that is also true at the State level.

While all eyes were on Virginia some things have been happening here in Florida. In Virginia the democrats have control of the Legislative and Executive branches of government, and one would kind of expect that they would pursue an anti-gun, anti-liberty and anti-freedom agenda. Here in Florida the republicans have control of the Legislative and Executive branches of government and one would kind of expect them not to pursue an anti-gun, anti-liberty and anti-freedom agenda, but they have.

Our republican controlled State Senate is reportedly working on a series of gun control bills. It was also reported that there was a rather sizeable political contribution from a gun control group. Which brings me to wonder which a politician will respond to, a letter or phone call from a constituent or a sizeable contribution? I think the sizeable political contribution will win every time. Do you really think that you have the politicians ear?

Looks like Virginia has a problem with democrats and their gun control agenda, and Florida has a problem with republicans and their gun control agenda.

By the way, the last round of gun control legislation passed after the mass murder in Parkland here in Florida was with a republican Legislature and a republican Governor. And let us not forget, before all this impeachment nonsense kicked off the President said something about having an “appetite” for some gun control measures. Also some republicans had sided with democrats on gun control measures, and some republican Senators had “instantly” put together national “red flag” proposals with incentives for states that would enact their own red flag laws.

It would seem that the two parties are heading in the same direction when it come to the Second Amendment. The only difference between the two is the speed at which they move.

Why now?

Checked in on the latest from the House impeachment inquiry, read a few news articles, caught a few video clips and listened to a few news and opinion personalities. Pretty much the same as I have done since this circus began. And each day the results are the same, democrats and their allies in the media claiming the most damning evidence has come to light and it is only a matter of time, republicans and their allies in the media saying their is no evidence and it is game over. They all hear and see the same thing and yet come up with different outcomes, amazing.

For three long years the democrats have been looking for a reason, any reason, to remove the president from office. Every path they have taken turned out to be a dead end. Now they have embarked on an impeachment inquiry and have gone down many a rabbit hole on this journey. They have gone past the point of no return, they can not turn back now and save face, nor can their allies in the media, they must push forward. About the only out they have is to claim they have the evidence but it would be pointless to proceed when it would be impossible to get the requisite number of Senators to vote to convict and remove. They could make this claim whether or not they have any evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors, no one would be the wiser.

The “official” impeachment inquiry began with the 2020 election just over a year out and now here we are within a week of Thanksgiving. We are well into the democrat primary season with Iowa in February. I doubt that the House will wrap up this inquiry before Thanksgiving, dragging on until early or mid December. Then Christmas will be approaching, if the Senate takes as long as the House is taking this will drag on well into the new year. When the Senate convenes for this all other business stops and if true as reported the Senate will be in session 6 days a week.

The same question comes up, Why now? There could be many reasons.

Perhaps they began this inquiry knowing full well that it would drag on for sometime. Campaigns will be sidelined for those democrats in the primary contest who happen to be sitting Senators, they will be at work. The only campaigning done for them will be through their surrogates. This gives a decided advantage to those not in the Senate, they will be out campaigning everyday. I doubt very seriously that they will suspend their campaign to show solidarity with their opponents. Perhaps this road was taken knowing it would give a decided advantage to the candidate of their choice. No, the democrats would never interfere with their own primaries or show preference for any candidate.

Perhaps it is the timing. The democrats knew full well that the spending bills to fund the government would not get done in time. After all, when was the last time the Congress actually got the spending bills passed on time or ahead of time for that matter? Once again here we are with a stop gap measure, a continuing resolution, to keep the government open. The democrats could forward their articles of impeachment to the Senate with, let’s say, a week or two until this stop gap measure is set to expire. The Senate could inform the House that they will begin the trial portion after another stop gap measure is approved. The House could inform the Senate that you have ample time to do this and no consideration will be given to a stop gap measure until after the trial. The Senate would be forced into a quick trial and verdict to avoid a government shutdown. 2020 is an election year, if the government suffers it second shutdown in as many years that would be bad for the republicans. If the Senate holds a quick trial to avoid a shutdown the Democrats will blame the republican controlled Senate for not giving fair consideration for the evidence presented to them. Thus the Senate would be caught between a rock and a hard spot. No the democrats would never cause a crisis and blame someone else.

Perhaps it is the crowded primary field. The democrats know that there is not one candidate, in the crowded field that would become the nominee, could defeat the President in the 2020 election. Since they can not beat him they chose to continue their mission of removing him from office.

Perhaps to avoid something. Removing the President has been their goal since day one, the talk of impeachment began when the President was the President-elect. They could have went down this path at any time since January 3rd of this year, yet they waited. Prior to this inquiry, formal inquiry, the President, a republican president, was willing to enact gun control legislation there were several republican members of Congress willing to go along. Some republicans had already teamed with democrats on legislation proposals. The President and the republicans would be going against the dreaded NRA. They could have waited until the republicans had enacted gun control. There was no way the democrats were going to let this happen. They would have lost two of their most important talking and campaign points. They could no longer claim that the republicans were against enacting “common sense” gun control measures, also they could no longer say that the republicans were in the pocket of the NRA. If the President and the republicans in Congress had gotten on the “gun control train” they could have been heroes to the gun control cult. That could have cost the democrats some votes they could not have this happen. So instead of having some republican gun control measures they chose to move ahead with this inquiry. They knew this impeachment inquiry would derail any gun control legislation. Within the past few days some Senators(democrat and republican)were lamenting how this impeachment has derailed gun control talks with the President.

Well anyway the circus continues tomorrow.

What if? Part 2

Some talking-heads and pundits on the right are spending a lot of time, energy and ink discussing the possibility of a civil war happening in America and what would be the cause or causes. They seem to think there would be two triggering events. This post will cover the second cause they addressed. It will be based around and about the second amendment.

The major topic today is the banning of so-called assault weapons(ARs, AKs and their variants). Unlike the assault weapons ban of 1994 which grandfathered those firearms already in possession, the new ban would also include those already in possession. The schemes run the entire gambit from a mandatory buy-back to licensing and registration and each democrat candidate in the primaries has a plan.

The lawful gun owners are not the problem. The lawful gun owners in the States that have enacted the most onerous gun control laws have not violently descended on their State Capitols. I have heard of no lawful gun owners resorting to violence when a fellow lawful gun owner has fallen a victim to a red flag law.

As a matter of fact, the lawful gun owners have not caused a problem at the State or Federal level, save for a few misguided individuals in some sort of attempt to make a statement or show support for the Second Amendment. We too have some idiots.

Here is the reason I do not think the lawful gun owners will be the instigators of a civil war. You only have to read this in the Declaration of Independence.
… Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light or transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. …
It would appear that the lawful gun owners are the descendants of some very wise men. The lawful gun owners wait for the next election and hope and pray that wiser choices are made in electing those that would govern.

I again believe the talking-heads and pundits spouting off about a civil war coming about by the right have it exactly backwards.

What if gun control does not become a reality for the left?

If you have read part one you know where I am headed.

If a civil war were break out it would be because the President is not impeached and gun control, the most onerous gun control, measures are not put into law. In that instance the pundits and talking-heads could be correct it would be about impeachment and the Second Amendment?

The high cost of things labeled as free

I am quite sure that by now everyone has heard the old adage “There is no such thing as a free puppy”. The puppy may have been given to you for free, however now you must pay for the upkeep vet bills, food and so forth. Pretty soon you will realize that that free puppy was not free after all, it will cost you something.

All free things come with a cost. That “free” college education the politicians are promising you will come at a cost, someone is going to have to pay for your free college. The same goes for the other promises of free stuff, someone will have to pay the price.

Some things labeled as Free come with a terrible cost. Those brave men that fought for the Freedom of this nation paid a cost, some paid the ultimate cost. The women suffered as well.

There is another thing labeled as “free” that comes with a terrible cost. Think about the terrible cost and the high price paid for having “gun free zones”. Politicians created the gun free zones.

With all of the laws on the books why hasn’t Congress declared this land to be a “crime free zone”?

Even being a free nation comes at a cost and that cost is vigilance.

By choice or force?

The leftists are going all out with their plan to disarm the peaceful law-abiding citizens of this Republic. Quite sure by now everyone, not living under a rock, has seen the clip of the 2020 presidential hopeful saying “Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47”. Some in his political party have tried to distance themselves from his statement. I do have to wonder if it is the message they are against or the delivery. Did he say openly what most leftists talk/dream about privately? They might not be able to get the toothpaste back in the tube.

When he used the word “We” he meant the government. So what he actually said was, “Hell yes, the government is going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.

The following comes from the Patrick Henry speech “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” 23March1775.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past.

The following excerpt comes from The Declaration of Arms also known as the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms, 06July1775
The inhabitants of Boston being confined within that town by the General, their Governor, and having, in order to procure their dismission, entered into a treaty with him, it was stipulated that the said inhabitants, having deposited their arms with their own magistrates, should have liberty to depart, taking with them their other effects. They accordingly delivered up their arms, but in open violation of honor, in defiance of the obligation of treaties, which even savage nations esteemed sacred, the Governor ordered the arms deposited as aforesaid, that they might be preserved for their owners, to be seized by a body of soldiers; detained the greatest part of the inhabitants in the town, and compelled the few who were permitted to retire to leave their most valuable effects behind.

There is something to note from the excerpt above The word arms is used twice, the word muskets is nowhere to be found.

The citizens of Boston trusted that the General, their Governor, would honor his word(treaty). They were sadly mistaken. Once disarmed they had no means to resist what was coming.

They could have, I suppose, asked or even begged for the return of their arms so they could defend themselves or at least force the General, their Governor, to honor his word. Do you think that a population that had been disarmed would be rearmed?

What happened in Boston that day in April 1775 was perhaps the first recorded example of a voluntary buy-back scheme. The price the government would pay for the voluntary surrender of arms by the citizens was the freedom to depart Boston and with them take the remainder of their possessions.

They traded one thing to gain another and wound up with neither and nothing. Seems like Benjamin Franklin had a quote on that matter. He had another, “Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you”.

There was a quote attributed to Edmond Burke, “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it”(the word doomed is sometimes used in place of destined). There is another old adage that fits, “History is a guide post not a hitching post”. History is chock full of examples of what has happened in countries where and when the population, the peaceful law-abiding population, is disarmed. Roundups and exterminations.

It was once said that one man with a gun can control one hundred without guns. If that is true then you just have to do simple math to figure out where this leads, if one can control one hundred, than ten can control a thousand, one hundred can control ten thousand and so on.

The gun control debate is just a part of the overall control issue. Gun control is not about the elimination of arms, it is about controlling who is armed.

Some in government and some wanting to be in government are more than willing to use the force of government to disarm the peaceful law-abiding citizens. Some politicians, the various gun control groups and their allies in the media tell us how much safer we will be if we disarm.

There are only two ways that an armed civilian population can be disarmed.
Choice.
Force.

Can peaceful law-abiding citizens(civilians)trust the government if only the government is armed.

History says no.
